To celebrate Jay’s birthday at the beginning of July, we traveled to Bilbao for the BBK Live Music Festival! A newer festival, BBK Live has been building popularity for the past several years. This year, the 3-day and single day tickets completely sold out! So We were expecting a lot of people and a good time.
The only music festival I’d been to before that was Bayou Country Superfest in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Completely different! BBK was a mixture of blues rock, rock, indie, and a little electronic.
One thing that really made our time there special was our Couchsurfing host, Dee, and her group of friends! We spent the entire weekend together dancing, pre-gaming with an Irish vs. USA beer pong match, and sleeping too little. I really hope we get to see them again soon.
Across the three days, we saw John Newman, Franz Ferdinand, Phoenix, Bastille, Jack Johnson, The Prodigy, The Lumineers, The Black Keys, and MGMT. It was a very eclectic mix of music, but I enjoyed all of it for the most part… minus the over priced festival food!
My favorite performance is a tie between Phoenix and the Black Keys. They are both moments I’ll remember for a long time coming! Nothing puts you in a good mood quite like losing yourself in great music. Here are a few photos I took during the weekend. I don’t think I’ll be going back to BBK Live, but it was nice to be back in Bilbao and I’m glad Jay got to see some of his favorite artists!
