I grew up near Tulsa, Oklahoma where competitive soccer, horseback riding, and volunteering were some of my greatest joys in life. I consider myself pretty damn well-rounded and one thing’s for sure: when I set my mind to something I make it happen.
My stubbornness and recklessness took me to Honduras my sophomore year of college. The following summer, my alma mater’s study abroad requirement sent me to Greece. My love of volunteering and adventure put me in Ecuador, and just one year later I turned down five different graduate programs to teach in Spain. That part happened by accident, really.
Every one of those experiences has made me who I am now. It can be difficult to not compare my life to other Americans my age. I find myself wondering where I’ll end up someday for not doing what I’m “supposed” to do. I sometimes feel like an outcast when my friends and family can’t relate to what I’m doing. I don’t have an engagement ring, a doctorate degree, or any babies to boast yet I’m still living an amazing life.
I live in the gorgeous, traditional region of La Rioja, Spain. I share an apartment in the historic old town with my two main men: Jay, my partner in crime for almost three years, and Guinness, our rowdy two-year-old Labrador. They alone make my life worth living, but we’ve done ourselves up a little more than that. We’ve made our lives an adventure.
I love being outdoors, especially hiking and camping. I enjoy cinematography, typography, and Impressionist art. I enjoy lazy days bundled in a blanket with a mug of coffee. I love sarcasm and the sensation of meeting complete strangers you somehow connect with. I enjoy almost everything about Europe. I’m not ready to leave it just yet.
I’m far from a travel expert. I make mistakes daily and looking back they’re all pretty hilarious. From following a little old woman lost in Italy to being tricked into a different hostel in Morroco, I’ve gained priceless life experiences after taking this leap of faith. If you’re reading this I want you to know that if I’m here stumbling around searching for what I truly enjoy in life, you deserve that, too.
This is where I write about it all. If you have any questions for me or want to get in touch for whatever reason, feel free to send me a message through my Contact page.
